TUNGSTENITE

Tungsten Disulfide is a molecular coating that provides exceptional lubrication and wear-life.

Tungstenite WS2

A single layer of High Velocity Impinged WS2 (0.5 micron thick) dramatically reduces friction and wear.

SAE AMS 2530

Optimum Uses of Tungstenite

Get the most out of your dry film lubricant

Primary Lubricant

Clean and Dry Tungsten Disulfide is ideal for applications that absolutely need to remain dry. WS2 was designed for the vacuum of space and extreme temperature changes (therefore no moisture is needed for lubrication). Tungsten Disulfide is also inert, non-toxic and non-corrosive which makes it perfect for when migrating substances can't be risked.

Secondary Lubricant

Increase the performance of your favorite synthetic oil or grease with parts coated with Tungsten Disulfide. Eliminate micro-welding on engine parts, reduce galling on bearings, and dramatically extend the wear-life of any metallic part. Impinged WS2 creates nano-tubes on the substrate that trap oil and grease so not only will Tungsten Disulfide add an extra layer of lubrication, it will also improve the effectiveness of conventional lubrication.

Single Use

Improve efficiency in fabrication and installations with Tungsten Disulfide. One clean cut, one tight fit, and one easy install, use Tungsten Disulfide when it has to go smoothly once. WS2 is .5 microns thick so there is no need to adjust the tolerances on exiting products. A simple solution for your friction problems.

THE APPLIED TUNGSTENITE ADVANTAGE

APPLICATION PROCESS

Applied Tungstenite mechanically air impinges tungsten disulfide (WS2) at ambient temperature with no cure time requirement. Tungstenite (WS2) can be applied to all metallic substrates, as a co-deposit to various plated parts. Tungstenite provides a molecular bond without using binders or chemical agents. Tungstenite (Tungsten Disulfide) will not crack, flake, chip or peel unless the substrate fails.

COATING THICKNESS

Tungstenite (WS2) has a molecular bond of .5 micron thick thus maintaining the dimensional integrity of the substrate. Its inherent hexagon shaped crystals and particle size prevent it from stacking on itself. Tungsten Disulfide is blue-gray in color and resembles a rhodium finish is when burnished. Tungstentite will mirror back all the characteristics of the substrate.

COEFFICIENT OF FRICTION

Tungsten Disulfide (WS2) achieves a dynamic coefficient of friction of .030 and static coefficient of friction of .070 to .090. Pressure, surface finish and surface hardness will have an effect on these results. Extensive real time, real life wear indicates little change over time unless severe overload conditions are introduced. Tungenstite's load capacity is the same as the substrate up to 350,000 psi or approximately 2,450 MPa.

OPERATING TEMPERATURE RANGE

Tungstenite's functional operating temperature range is from -460°F to 1200°F (-273°C – 648°C) in normal atmosphere and 2400°F (1315°C) in vacuum. At approximately 825°F (440°C) there is an oxidation threshold and however this rate is quite slow compared to other lubricants. Tungsten Disulfide's out-gassing characteristics are quite low as well.

CHEMICAL STABILITY

Tungstenite (tungsten disulfide) is inert, non-toxic, and non-corrosive. Tungstenite can be applied to all stable metal substrates. Tungstenite (WS2) is resistant to corrosion but can not inhibit the effect of corrosion on the substrate.

COMPATIBILITY

Tungstenite (WS2) is compatible and used successfully to increase lubricity, reduce heat, improve viscosity of petrochemical oils and greases, synthetic diesters oils, silicone lubricants and hydraulic fluids. It has an affinity for lubricants and strives to maintain a hydro dynamic layer
